Step 1: check the registration
The Colegio de Cirujanos Dentistas de Costa Rica publishes a searchable list of dentists. You can search by name, surname, specialty or professional code and see the status of each professional. Checked November 4, 2026. You can also contact the Colegio directly to confirm.
Step 2: ask about the clinic
- Which dentist will treat me, and what is their professional code?
- Which specialty, if any, are they registered in?
- Does the clinic hold the Ministry of Health permits it needs? Ask to see them. (Our understanding is that health establishments need an operating permit; confirm with the Ministerio de Salud.)
- Who covers follow-up if there is a problem?
Step 3: keep a paper trail
Ask for the diagnosis, the plan, the materials and the total cost in writing, in a language you understand.
